The 2019 Ping Welsh Junior Tour Final took place at the superb Newport Golf Club and was a fitting finale to the 2019 season. Despite the poor weather forecast it didn’t damped the spirits of the 80 junior golfers who had qualified for the final by virtue of their performances across the year.

As with the order of merit events the competition comprised of the normal U14s, U12s, U10s and U8s age groups. In the U14s age group Tomos Evans (Ashburnham Golf Club), was delighted to take home the U14’s title with a superb performance seeing Tomos notch up 42 stableford points. Joseph Nand-lal (Milford Haven Golf Club) came home in an excellent 2nd position with 39 points. Kian Orford (Llanwern Golf Club) completed the podium with a score of 37 just beating Kian Evans on count back. Rhiannon Lewis (Glynhir Golf Club) took the top girl award with 36 points.

The U12s category has been hotly contested over the course of the year and the final continued this trend with the top four separated by just the single point. Thomas Edwards (Builth Wells Golf Club) pipped his rivals to the victory with 63 points, followed by Aaron Mohun (Wrexham Golf Club) who came out on top of a three way tie of players on 62 points. Owen Williams (Glamorganshire Golf Club) completed the podium with serial event winner William Pontin unlucky to be edged out into 4th position. Jemma Nand-lal (Milford Haven Golf Club) played well to take home the top girl award at the final with a fine 56 points.

The U10’s saw a much more convincing win for Casper Van Rensburg (Celtic Manor Resort) with 64 points 4 points clear of second. Tomas Carlson (Milford Haven Golf Club) and Thomas Machlean (Pennard Golf Club) fought out the other two positions on the podium again having to be separated by card count-back. Tomas managed to sneak into second position ahead of Thomas. Alicia Kelly (Wernddu Golf Club) did as she has done many times this year in the Ping Junior Tour and took home the top girl award with 55 points.

Oliver Hulbert (Monmouthshire Golf Club) continued his domination of the U8 category to take the finals victory with an excellent 66 points. George Benitez (Celtic Manor Resort) came home in 2nd with an excellent 58 points scores with Joshua Alderton (The Grove Golf Club) completing the podium a point further back. Fflur Cullen (Clwb Golff Pwllheli) took home the top girl award with a very credible 49 points.

We also took the opportunity to award the order of merit winners for the four age categories. Sebastian Williams took top honors in the U14s age group with William Pontin running out a convincing winner after a superb season in the U12’s. Fallon Sawyers-Grandon took the spoils in the U10s and Oliver Hulbert won the U8 order of merit after never finishing outside the top two in all the events he competed in.

Congratulations to all our winners at the final and throughout the course of the year. A special thanks to Newport Golf Club for being a superb final venue and we are extend our thanks to all he clubs that hosted us throughout the year. Finally we must thank Ping for their support of the Welsh Junior Tour as without them none of this would be possible. We wish everyone a fine winter, we hope you enjoy the festive season and we look forward to seeing many of you for the 2020 Ping Welsh Junior Tour.
