Due to lack of government funding the Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WVCA) who the GUW did all DBS checks through closed on 30th September 2016.
The Welsh Sports Association (WSA) has formed a partnership with Complete Background Screening Services (CBS), a highly experienced provider of background checks, such as DBS. CBS is a Pontypridd based company and is the 3rd largest provider of checks in the UK. The new service is now fully operational and all DBS checks will be carried out online through this new service at the GUW Offices.
Initially DBS checks will be FREE for volunteers as the WSA has secured a grant from Sport Wales to cover the admin fee of £4.50 for checks for all national governing bodies of sport until March 31st 2017 ONLY. After this date, volunteer checks will incur a £4.50 charge.
The GUW is also offering, as an added benefit to its member clubs, FREE sign up for individuals to the Update Service (£3.60 per year). This means that individuals will not need to re-apply every 3 years where the same level and type of check is required. The Update Service will be paid by the GUW on an annual basis. However clubs/ individuals will need to notify GUW if an individual’s check is no longer needed. For example if a Junior Organiser retires from their role etc.
Please remember that checks for paid members of staff and NOT volunteers cost £44.00.
