The SSE Enterprise Wales Senior Open takes place at the Celtic Manor Resort, Newport on the 3-5th June and as part of that tournament the European Senior Tour have organised a number of community events in partnership with Newport City Council, Newport Live and Golf Development Wales to help bring awareness of the sport to children in the Newport area.

On Wednesday 20th April, Friars Walk shopping centre, owned by Queensberry Real Estate, hosted a Street Golf event, where over 200 children from various local schools took part in some fun golf challenges, including Inflatable driving ranges and having to chip foam golf balls into the boot of a car, under the watchful eye of welsh professional golfer, Mark Mouland a leading player on the European Senior Tour.

The morning event drew a large crowd of curious onlookers as the eager primary school children negotiated the various street golf obstacles.

Andy Stubbs, Managing Director of the European Senior Tour said, “We are delighted to be involved in this initiative with Newport City Council, Newport Live and Golf Development Wales and hope that this introduction to our magnificent sport encourages a number of the children to take up golf and want to play on a regular basis. We are grateful for the support of Queensberry Real Estate for agreeing to host what should be a fun activity for many local children.”

Simon Pullen, Centre Director of Friars Walk said, “We are delighted to support this community golf event and to welcome children from local schools to participate in what will be an exciting day.”
