Changes to the format of Ladies Team Championships will be coming into effect from 2020 in an effort to make the Championships more competitive and cost effective for all. As a result of consultation with a number of people in the winter months, plus competitors and captains competing in this year’s Championship, the new format for the Championship Finals will be a 2 day event as follows:
The New Format
Pre-qualifying round(s) will take place regionally across Wales finding 14 teams (plus defending champions and the host club) to progress to the Ladies Team Championship Finals in the same manner as is required currently for any pre-qualifying round(s).
All other aspects of the Championship in terms of format of matches will remain unchanged.
Margaret Wood Plate
The plate will be re-named to the Margaret Wood Plate and will consist of the 12 teams which fail to qualify for the semi-finals of the Championship following the close of play on day 1. It will be played on day 2 and consist of a scratch four-ball better-ball competition where all 6 members of the squad can compete. The best two scores from three counting for the team total.
How it will Work
Championship – The round of 16 will be played on day 1 AM and the quarter finals will be played on day 1 PM. Those who lose in either of these rounds will go into the plate for the following day. The semi-final will be played day 2 AM and the final on day 2 PM.
Margaret Wood Plate – This will be played following the semi-final matches of the Championship on day 2 AM, concluding shortly before the Championship Final is set to end on day 2 PM.
