Environmental Agency

How can the Environment Agency help me?

The Environment Agency has responsibility for much of the permitting and monitoring of UK legislation as well as water management including flood, pollution, Sustainable Urban Drainage (SuDS), natural environment and prosecutions for non-compliance. They also monitor energy and sustainability reporting programmes including Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) now Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme (ESOS).
We are also responsible for managing the risk of flooding from main rivers, reservoirs, estuaries and the sea. Lead local flood authorities (LLFAs) are responsible for managing the risk of flooding from surface water, groundwater and ordinary watercourses and lead on community recovery.
Their priority is to work with businesses and other organisations to manage the use of resources, increase the resilience of people, property and businesses to the risks of flooding & coastal erosion and to protect and improve water, land and biodiversity. They also want to improve the way they work as a regulator to protect people and the environment and inevitably support sustainable growth.
