Vale Resort golfer Darcey Harry typified the top scoring at the second Welsh Junior Tour event, held at Carmarthen Golf Club, as she led the way in the under 14 girls’ age group.

She had an impressive score of 77 playing off 17 handicap which amassed 48 stableford points. Following closely behind were Megan Vineall from Newport and Kasumi Tran from Tenby with 44 and 41 points respectively.

Local knowledge definitely helped in the under 14 boys’ section with the winner Sean Hazelby and runner up Jamie Dean both being members of the host club Carmarthen. Scores of 41 and 38 points were enough to keep them just ahead of third placed player Declan Morgan from Glyn Abbey.

Chairman of the GUW Championships Committee Ashton Bradbury said, “We are delighted with the success of the Junior Tour so far.

“Eighty five players aged between 6 and 14 took part at Carmarthen following a similar number competing at Mold earlier in the year.

“Our thanks go to the committee and members at Carmarthen Golf Club for giving up their course for the day and helping us in the organisation.”

The younger age groups are played over 9 holes on shortened courses using a modified stableford points system where players can score up to 10 points on each hole.

In the U12s event Ryan Williams from Bargoed and Zak Baker from Llandrindod Wells, winner and runner up in the first event at Mold, swapped places this time with Zak pipping Ryan by a single point to win the Carmarthen event with an exceptional score of 62 points.

Brodi Lewis from Pyle & Kenfig won the U10s section, having been placed 3rd at Mold, with 61 points just edging out Abergele’s Charlie McKinney. Charlie remains top of the U10s Order of Merit table following his win at Mold.

Players from Mid Wales dominated the U8s category with Harry Edwards from Builth Wells just holding off Llandrindod Wells’ player Reuben Baker to take first place.

The next event will be held at Lakeside Golf Club in Mid Wales followed by the final regional event at Virginia Park Golf Club in Caerphilly. The top 20 players in the Order of Merit in each age category will then be invited to play in the Tour Final to be held at St Pierre near Chepstow.
