Finals week a continued success

More than 300 players from 50 different clubs took part in Wales Golf competitions that culminated in a successful Finals Week at Carmarthen Golf Club.

Home advantage helped Carmarthen’s Len Davies and Alan Williams claim the Senior Greensomes title, while it was a home club double in the Welsh Mixed Medal which was won by Anthony Sparks with clubmate Hazel Davies-Miller the leading woman.

Tenby’s Irene Gilman and Louise Hill won the Australian Spoons. The Centenary Greensomes was won by Eleanor Osei-Frimpong and Jeanette Parry from Denbigh, while the PING Mixed Foursomes was won by Pontardawe who successfully defended their title. The PING Mixed Foursomes Plate was won by Tenby.

Glamorgan won the Men’s Inter-Counties Final, while Monmouthshire won the Women’s Inter-Counties Final.

“It was great to see such a wonderful culmination of all these events involving so many players and clubs across Wales,” said Wales Golf Competitions Manager Christian Askins.

“Carmarthen were fantastic hosts for the event, the course was in great condition fully justifying the decision to hire extra greenkeepers in the build up to the event.

“Next year Finals Week heads to North Wales when Holyhead will be the hosts as we look to build on the excellence of this year’s event.

“Finals Week is a relatively new fixture in the Wales Golf calendar but it has quickly become established as one of the highlights with the finalists of all these competitions enjoying the chance to mix and mingle.”
