Almost 100 Girl Guides took part in a golf camp at Nefyn in North Wales, living up to their motto by being prepared to try a sport for life. The event was part of the Girl Guides Summer Camp, which included a golfing day at Girls Hub club Nefyn with 15 leaders on hand to work with the 91 Girl Guides.
Kim Boulden of WalesGolf and Girl Guides manager Gabriella Doyle led the day, with plans to build on the success by organising a Junior Tri Golf Activator workshop for all the Girl Guide leaders and any girls wanting to attend that are 16+ years.
“The summer camp was being held in Nefyn, which is also one of our Girls Hub clubs so it seemed the obvious place to hold the event – and they were more than happy to help,” explained Boulden.
“Myself, Jon Froom (Nefyn Professional) and Thomas Bridgett (Assistant Pro) did some putting, chipping and long game work with the girls. “Then the volunteers, which included people from the Nefyn Junior section, did seven different skills challenges – one of which included a donut and drinks pit stop!
“All the girls were split into groups and everyone rotated. Junior organisers Noreen Dunwoodie and Barbara Custance were driving force who helped pull the event together from the Nefyn side. They sorted out appropriate prizes for the winning teams. “All the girls seemed to have enjoyed themselves, Gabriella and all the leaders were extremely complimentary of the day.”
