In 2015, Golf Development Wales teamed up with Made in Cardiff Television to promote junior golf in the South Wales area.

Between March and June 2015, Made in Cardiff’s sports show “Left Field, Right Pitch” aired footage of the “Step Back Challenge” every Thursday night.  As part of Step Back, 13 clubs gave their juniors the chance to compete against juniors from other golf clubs.  The juniors had to attempt to hole 6 putts where, as the distance increased so did the points available, for example 0.5m = 1 point, 1.0m = 2 points etc.  At least 6 juniors from each club completed the challenge, with scores adding together to create a leaderboard which was updated every week.

98 juniors in total completed Step Back and the overall winner was Cottrell Park Golf Club with a total of 83 points.  Congratulations to Steve and the juniors from Cottrell, fantastic putting!!

You can view the footage of The Step Back Challenge on www.madeincardiff.tv through their “On View” section, then searching for “sport” and then “Left Field, Right Pitch”.

Thanks to Huw and the filming team from Made in Cardiff who were incredibly helpful and have made great efforts to promote golf in the area.  As well as Step Back, Huw took his team to Cottrell Park, Creigiau and Virginia Park to film different projects and also filmed the StreetGolf Competition this May in 2015.  More projects to follow…
