Meet the Inclusive Ambassadors

Introducing the people helping promote inclusive golf across Wales

    Handicap: 12

    A recent single leg amputee who played golf before his motorcycle accident. He won his 1st EDGA event (the Stableford category) – The Spanish Open for Disabled Golfers, as well as, the WDA Welsh Open and Scottish Disabled Open.

     

    So far Mike Jones in his role as an inclusive ambassador is/has:

    • Attending the next ASQ level 1 course
    • Attended inclusive sessions both adults and juniors with our Professional of the Year at the Parc Golf club
    • Attending a young amputees sport festival and delivering golf
    • Is planning an inclusive open at his own club to raise money to make the club and course the most accessible in Wales

    Is a former soldier who was blown up in Afghanistan. His injuries resulted in damage to the frontal lobe of the brain, visual impairments, hearing impairments and damage to his legs. He didn’t play golf before his injury and now plays at Rhyl Golf Club with a golfing handicap of 21. He believes golf has helped him with his rehab both mentally and physically and that ‘golf saved him’.

     

    So far Stewart in his role as an inclusive ambassador has:

    • Delivered several talks at golf clubs
    • Been involved in the planning of an inclusive scheme for Veterans at Conwy Golf Club
    • Presented the GDW Professional of the year award at the GUW Club of the Year Awards
    • Been part of the Q and A session with Lydia Hall (our Women and Girls ambassador and winner of the Tour Professional of the year) at the Club of the Year Awards.
    • Is attending the next ASQ level 1 course
