Nedza brothers power Neath to Team Championship title

Nedza brothers Luke and Ryan steered Neath to the Welsh Men’s Team Championship title, in a family affair against defending champions Pyle and Kenfig including Tom, Sam and Matthew Peet.

That success followed Ryan Nedza reaching the quarter-finals of the Welsh Men’s Amateur Championship the week before, beating Luke on the 20th hole in the round of 16.

The final of the Team Championships, played in Cardigan, came down to the final match in which Luke Nedza beat Matthew Peet 2 and 1. Ryan Nedza had earlier won his match against Tom Peet, while Craig Melding was the other matchwinner for Neath.

Parc and Glamorganshire were the losing semi-finalists, while hosts Cardigan went out at the quarter-final stage along with Tenby, Llanwern and Morlais Castle. Padeswood and Buckley, Whitchurch, Ashburnham, Conwy, Caerphilly, Pennard, Southerndown and Creigiau reached the last 16.

“There were plenty of tight matches throughout the event, with a high standard of play which saw Neath coming through against the defending champions,” said Tournament Director Daniel Fullager.

“Cardigan proved excellent hosts, with the course providing an excellent challenge for many of the best club golfers in Wales. Thanks to all the staff and volunteers for helping such an excellent event.”
