The Ping Welsh Junior Tour is back, with 68 young golfers taking part in the first event of the season in Mold.
Quite a few travelled up from South and West Wales, while there was a strong showing from North Wales clubs, with the winners honours being shared equally between North and South.
The Ping Welsh Junior Tour sees boys and girls competing at U8, U10, U12 and U14 levels.
The first event of the season was at Mold, with further events at Caernarfon, Lakeside Garthmyl, Garnant Park, Builth Wells and Aberdare, building up to the final at Tredegar Park at the end of the summer.
One Tredegar Park player secured a spot at his home course in the final as William Johnson claimed first place in the Under 14 category, winning on countback after finishing level on points with George Ledsham of Mold.
Juliet Collis put in a strong showing in fourth, in the week her older sister Annabel went on to claim seventh place in the Welsh Women’s Open Stroke Play at Southerndown.
James Palfrey of Greenmeadow came first in the U12 category, with Pennard’s Thomas Maclean in second.
Wrexham’s Ricky Mohun claimed the U10 category win, with Kailum-Jai Hulbert of Bryn Meadows in second, while Nefyn’s Bobi Jones edged out Ludlow’s George Smith in the U8’s, Frazer Harris of Bryn Meadows in third with Pennard’s Molly Maclean in fourth.
“It was great to see so many young golfers from all around Wales learning to compete and have fun in the first PING Junior Tour event of the season,” said Wales Golf’s event organiser Daniel Fullager.
“Naturally there was a strong contingent from North Wales clubs, but it was also good to see so many travelling to take part in what is a series of national events held around Wales.
“The standard was high with plenty of good scores, which augurs well for the next event to be held in Caernarfon.”
