PING Junior Tour winners from all round Wales

Winners of the PING Welsh Junior Tour came from all round Wales for the final celebration of a season which saw more than 100 junior players take part.

The final will took place at Builth Wells, with 78 golfers from around Wales earning their places at that, but the Order of Merits had already been decided by the six events held round Wales through the season.

Sam Matthews of Swansea Bay came out on top in the Under 14’s category, holding off the challenge of Tredegar Park’s Tristan Poole, while Llantrisant and Pontyclun pair Geraint Barnes and Dylan Jones were third and fourth.

It was Poole who came out on top on Finals Day, with clubmate William Johnson second, Zavier Jones of Llantrisant and Pontyclun third and Matthews in fourth.

Efan Rees of Garnant Park won the Under 12’s category Order of Merit, with Ludlow’s Harry Smith in second, while Cilgwyn pair Cai Jones and Dion Jones were third and fourth.

Rees was second on Finals Day on adjusted scores, behind Spencer Rolfe of Wrexham, with Ricky Mohun of Delamere Forest in third.

In the Under 10’s category Sam Sheard of Wrexham came out on top in the Order of Merit, Ludlow’s George Smith matching his brother with a second place, Wrexham’s Jac Rate in third with Swansea Bay’s Esme Matthews fourth.

George Benitez, St Pierre, won on Finals Day on adjusted scores, with Swansea Bay’s Macsen Dyer in second and Sheard in third place.

The Under 8’s was won by Daniel Clarke of Peterstone Lakes between Cardiff and Newport, Caernarfon’s Efan Millington in second with Padeswood and Buckley’s Jack Blythin in third.

Newport’s Alexander Bird came out on top on Finals Day, on adjusted scores, with Pennard’s Molly Maclean second and St Melyd’s Rory Grocott in third.

“It has been great to see so many young players enjoying the PING Welsh Junior Tour this season, with the top 78 invited to round things off at the finals,” said event organiser Daniel Fullager.

“It is also nice to see that 13 girls won their way through to the finals, while there were 34 clubs around Wales represented in all, which shows the strength of junior golf at so many clubs around Wales.

“We could not have run such a event without our sponsors PING and the support they give Wales Golf.

“We also relied on the help from the clubs which hosted our regular events through the summer and of course Builth Wells who hosted the final.”
