PLAY NINE IN THE WINTER TIME

07 Nov 16

Return to news

The glorious shot on the clear, crisp morning that warms the senses; the camaraderie in the clubhouse after a fun-filled nine holes; ensuring your membership is an all-year experience.

There are a host of benefits to winter golf and the game’s bodies in Great Britain & Ireland are encouraging players to stay active during the shorter days and darker nights.

This popular nine-hole video https://youtu.be/iHcSvo5nrXg – supported by a host of leading names including Padraig Harrington, Martin Kaymer, Matteo Manassero, Catriona Matthew, Charley Hull and Mel Reid –  outlines the benefits of shorter formats of the game, perfect for this time of year.

While nine-hole golf proves especially popular in the summer months, perhaps a quick round with friends after work or in a competition to help maintain a handicap, nine holes in the winter is equally enjoyable either socially or competitively.

Many clubs run nine-hole events throughout the winter, while even a few holes allows the chance to unwind and stay fit and healthy during the colder days .

The nine-hole digital campaign, first launched in July, will again be promoted on websites and through social media in the coming days by England Golf, the Golfing Union of Ireland, the Irish Ladies Golf Union, the Golf Union of Wales, Scottish Golf, the European Tour, the Ladies’ European Tour, the PGA, Sky Sports, the Golf Foundation and The R&A.

All the bodies support nine-hole events and The R&A successfully piloted a new nine-hole championship at Royal Troon ahead of The 145th Open this year, one set to be continued and supported by the home associations in 2017.

Don’t hibernate and hide the clubs away until the spring – find time for nine.
