The R&A Level 2 Rules Seminar is targeted at individuals wishing to learn more about the Rules or for those with some practical experience as a referee or may have been identified as an individual who could fulfil such a role in the future. The purpose of the Seminar is to provide instruction on the Rules and advice on officiating, and it is vital that, to gain the most from the Seminar, delegates should come to the Seminar prepared.
The R&A Level 2 Examination is included as part of the Seminar. While the Level 2 Examination is optional, it is an important part of the Seminar and all delegates are strongly recommended to take it.
There will also be “On Course” sessions that will allow individuals to learn and test their practical refereeing skills in a variety of Rules situations. During “Role Play”, all delegates taking part will receive constructive feedback from the instructors on their application of the Rules, communication skills with the player and how they handled the Ruling overall. It is strongly recommended that all delegates take part in giving a ruling and approach this with an open mind.
We would recommend that a preparation schedule be developed, for example, reading an individual Rule each day. Bearing in mindthat there are 25 Rules, such a schedule should be completed in approximately four weeks. After this it may be worth attempting the sample exam contained in this Guide, which will give you an indication of how you are progressing. It is hoped that all delegates will leave the Seminar having learned something that will aid them in their continuing or future role as referees.
