Format changes from 2020

Changes to the format of Ladies Team Championships will be coming into effect from 2020 in an effort to make the Championships more competitive and cost effective for all. The Ladies Team Championships will now take place over the final weekend in August.

The New Format

The new format will be as follows; pre-qualifying rounds will be played within regions across Wales in a straight Knockout format until 8 teams remain. These 8 teams, including the defending Champions and Host Venue, will compete in the Quarter Finals at the Ladies Team Championship Finals.

All teams which fail to qualify for the Ladies Team Championship Finals will be invited to compete in the Plate Competition, which will be renamed to the Margaret Wood Plate. The Margaret Wood Plate will be a team handicap competition played in conjunction with the Ladies Team Championship Finals

How it will Work

Championship – The quarter final matches played day 1 am, then the semi-finals and finals taking place on day 2. The format within matches will be the same as currently running; 5 individual matches, first to 3 points wins.

Margaret Wood Plate – Following the quarter final matches of the Championship, the first round of the plate will take place. This will be teams of 5 playing individual full handicap Stableford, with the best 3 scores from each team to count. The top 6 teams from Round 1 of the plate will qualify for Round 2, taking place between the semi-final and final of the Championship.

The winning team will be the lowest aggregate of the 6 qualifying scores across the two days.
